What is FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit)?
An FPC is a thin flexible circuit that connects a display panel to the host board, usually terminated in a ZIF connector or soldered pads with a specified pin count and pitch.
What to check on a display FPC
Parameter | Typical values | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
Pin count | 12–60 | Must match the connector on your board |
Pitch | 0.3, 0.5, 0.8, 1.0 mm | Determines the connector part |
Termination | ZIF connector, solder pads, hot-bar | Assembly method |
Contact side | Top or bottom | Wrong side means no contact |
Length and shape | Custom | Fits your enclosure without stress |
Customizing the FPC
Changing FPC length, shape or connector is one of the cheapest display customizations. It usually costs a modest tooling charge with low MOQs, and avoids redesigning the mainboard. It is also a common way to make a replacement panel pin-compatible with an older design.
Handling tips
Respect the minimum bend radius in the datasheet, avoid repeated flexing at the stiffener edge, and keep high-speed lanes (MIPI, LVDS) away from sharp folds.
Frequently asked questions
Can a display FPC be customized?
Yes. Length, shape and connector changes are low-cost customizations and are often used to fit an enclosure or match an existing mainboard.
What is ZIF?
Zero Insertion Force: a connector with a latch that clamps the FPC without needing force to insert it.
Not sure which display fits your design?
Send us your size, interface and host processor. A display engineer replies within 12 hours with 2–3 options, datasheets and init code. Samples from 1 pc.
