Designing a round UI
The frame buffer is square, but only the inscribed circle is visible. Keep interactive elements away from the edge (an 8–12 px margin works well) and use circular layouts such as arcs, rings and radial menus. LVGL’s arc and meter widgets are designed for exactly this.
Rotary knob displays
Round displays mounted inside a rotary encoder ring are increasingly popular for smart home controllers, coffee machines and audio equipment. The mechanical stack (cover lens, bezel, encoder, touch) is where most projects lose time, so start mechanical design early and request a sample with the exact cover lens.
Touch on round displays
Capacitive touch is available on most sizes. Circular cover glass with optical bonding gives the most premium look and the best readability.

Frequently asked questions
What resolution are round LCD displays?
They use square pixel grids: 240×240 for 1.28″, 360×360 for around 1.5″, and 480×480 for 2.1″–2.8″. Only the inscribed circle is visible.
Can ESP32 drive a round display?
Any ESP32 can drive a 1.28″ GC9A01 SPI display. 2.1″ and larger 480×480 RGB round displays need an ESP32-S3 with PSRAM.
Do round displays support touch?
Yes, most round modules are available with capacitive touch, typically using a CST816S-class controller on small sizes and GT911-class controllers on larger ones.
