When to choose eDP
Choose eDP when you need Full HD or higher above 11″ and your processor has a native eDP output, such as x86 boards or Rockchip RK3588. Because the panel reports its timing through EDID, a standard eDP panel often lights up without custom timing work.
Common connectors
Most eDP panels use a 30-pin (up to 2 lanes) or 40-pin (up to 4 lanes) I-PEX-style connector. Pin counts look standard but pinouts vary, especially backlight enable and PWM pins. Always check the datasheet before reusing a cable.

Backlight
Many eDP panels expect the system to provide backlight enable and PWM, sometimes plus a separate 5–21 V LED supply. Plan the backlight power rail early; it is a common cause of "panel works but stays dark".
Frequently asked questions
Can I connect an eDP panel to HDMI?
Yes, with an HDMI-to-eDP controller board. It is a good option for prototypes or low volumes; production designs usually use the SoC’s native eDP output.
Why is my eDP panel dark even though the image signal is present?
The backlight is usually not enabled. Check the BL_EN signal, the PWM signal polarity and the LED supply voltage required by the panel.
Do all 30-pin eDP panels share the same pinout?
No. Many are similar, but backlight and test pins differ. Confirm the pinout from each panel datasheet before swapping panels.
