Where you find the ILI9342C

The ILI9342C is common in 2.0″–2.4″ landscape QVGA modules, including several in our catalog, and in widely used ESP32 development devices. Because the panel is landscape-native, a 320-pixel-wide UI needs no rotation in software.

Interfaces

Interface

Typical use

3/4-wire SPI

MCU projects, few pins

8080 parallel (8/16-bit)

Faster full-screen updates on MCUs with an LCD/FSMC peripheral

RGB (parallel or serial)

Hosts with an LCD controller; streaming updates

Bring-up notes

  1. Confirm the interface mode set by the IM pins on your module before choosing a driver.
  2. Use an ILI9342-specific init sequence; an ILI9341 sequence may show a mirrored or rotated image.
  3. If colours look inverted on IPS variants, toggle display inversion (0x21/0x20) and check the BGR bit in MADCTL.

Compare with ILI9341 and see the TFT white screen guide.

ILI9342C troubleshooting & FAQ

What is the difference between ILI9341 and ILI9342C?

Both drive QVGA panels with on-chip memory, but ILI9341 is portrait-native (240×320) while ILI9342C is landscape-native (320×240). Init sequences and default memory orientation differ, so use the driver that matches the controller on your module.

Can I use an ILI9341 library with an ILI9342C display?

Often yes with rotation and init changes, because the command sets are closely related. Many libraries, including LovyanGFX and ESP-IDF esp_lcd, support ILI9342 directly; using the matching driver avoids mirrored or offset images.

Which interface should I use with ILI9342C?

SPI is simplest for MCUs. Use 8080 parallel for faster full-screen refresh, or RGB when the host has an LCD controller and you want continuous video-like updates.
