Engineering notes
Memory and bandwidth
An 800×480 RGB565 frame is 750 KB, and refreshing it at 60 Hz needs about 45 MB/s. ESP32-S3 with octal PSRAM manages this, but enable bounce buffers and avoid heavy PSRAM traffic from other tasks during refresh.
Touch integration
GT911 reports up to five touch points over I2C. Its address (0x5D or 0x14) depends on the INT pin level during reset, so drive INT explicitly in your reset routine.
Why 5-inch
At 800×480 the 5″ panel has about 187 PPI, so small text stays crisp, and it fits handheld and desktop equipment where 7″ is too large.

Integration
Integration calculations
Figures below are calculated from the DE-500-RGB-CTP’s 800×480 resolution and RGB (parallel), so you can size the host before requesting samples. Refresh rates are theoretical bus limits; real throughput is lower once command overhead and rendering time are included.
| Pixel density | 187 PPI |
|---|---|
| Native orientation | Landscape (800×480) |
| Full frame buffer | 750 KB at RGB565 · 1.10 MB at RGB888 |
| RGB pixel clock for 60 Hz | ≈ 27.6 MHz (incl. ~20% blanking) |
| RGB bus width | 24 data lines (16.7M colors) + PCLK, HSYNC, VSYNC, DE; can be wired as 16-bit RGB565 with the low bits tied |
At 500 cd/m² it suits bright indoor spaces and shaded outdoor kiosks; choose 800+ cd/m² with optical bonding for direct sunlight.
Hosts with a native RGB (parallel) peripheral
RGB LCD peripheral (16-bit RGB565) with the 750 KB frame buffer in PSRAM.
- STM32 with LTDC
F429/F7/H7 families drive 16- to 24-bit RGB panels from external SDRAM.
- Raspberry Pi (DPI)
Parallel RGB over the GPIO header via the DPI overlay.
Interface support is based on each processor’s published display peripherals, not a bench test of this module. Ask us for tested init code.

Frequently asked questions
Can ESP32-S3 run LVGL smoothly on an 800×480 display?
Yes, with octal PSRAM, double buffering or bounce buffers, and a 16 MHz-class pixel clock. Keep heavy Wi-Fi transfers in mind when tuning.
What is the I2C address of the touch controller?
GT911 uses 0x5D or 0x14 depending on the INT pin level during reset.
Is a high-brightness version available?
High-brightness backlights and optical bonding can be added as a customization for semi-outdoor use.
What is the brightness of the DE-500-RGB-CTP?
500 cd/m² typical with the standard backlight. At 500 cd/m² it suits bright indoor spaces and shaded outdoor kiosks; choose 800+ cd/m² with optical bonding for direct sunlight.
What interface does the DE-500-RGB-CTP use?
RGB through a 40-pin FPC. Pin definition and timing are in the datasheet, which you can request on this page.
Which processors can drive the DE-500-RGB-CTP?
ESP32-S3: RGB LCD peripheral (16-bit RGB565) with the 750 KB frame buffer in PSRAM. STM32 with LTDC: F429/F7/H7 families drive 16- to 24-bit RGB panels from external SDRAM. Raspberry Pi (DPI): Parallel RGB over the GPIO header via the DPI overlay.
Does the DE-500-RGB-CTP have a touch panel?
Yes, a capacitive (CTP) touch panel. The non-touch version and other cover-glass options can be built.
What is the MOQ and lead time for the DE-500-RGB-CTP?
Samples start from 1 pc. Production MOQ and lead time depend on quantity and any customization (FPC length, backlight, touch), and are agreed per project with our sales team. Send your annual volume and target date for a quote.
